What is Egg Fasting?
Many obese people, go through low carb and lose weight quickly at first, then it becomes harder and harder. At this time, many people begin to question, is it that I am not suitable for low carb? Is it that low-carb dieting is not effective? Every time I see such ketology, I am heartbroken, in fact, for those who are adapted to ketogenic, we enjoy the state of ketogenic more than the weight loss effect brought about by low carb. Recently, I found a good way for those who have been on the plateau for too long to try. That is the egg fasting method.
If you are an old friend of ketogenic diets, you should know the American ketogenic god Jimmy Moore (Jimmy Moore). He first relied on a low-fat diet, lost more than 100 pounds, bounced back, and then lost about 170 pounds through ketogenic diets.
Some people get so sick to their stomachs eating four or five eggs a day, how does he keep it up? Does it make you hungry? Is it feasible? His egg fasting method, normal people can also be implemented, but it is not as simple as eating a few eggs, let’s go back in time to six years ago.
Ketogenic Bloggers Also Regain Weight
Six years ago, when Jimmy transitioned from a high-carb diet to a low-carb diet, he switched from regular sugary sodas to sugar-free sodas, from sugary chocolates to sugar-free chocolates, and replaced cane sugar with stevia.
He was grateful that these foods helped him beat obesity and improved his metabolism, but at the same time, they were addictive.
Eventually, he couldn’t control his appetite and he drank sugar-free beverages every day, which don’t raise sugar but can be detrimental to kicking a sugar addiction, and he still craved sweets, followed by a relapse into obesity.
In March 2010, he traveled on the 3rd Annual Low Carb Cruise and came back disappointed in his appearance and his weight regain. Jimmy knew that although he had been practicing a low-carb diet, it was becoming increasingly casual, and he was no longer controlling his appetite as strictly.
To make matters worse, he realized that his hyperinsulinemia was also getting worse. But, as a longtime ketogenic veteran, he knew exactly where he wanted to go next. So, he tailored a more “tough” “ketogenic + light fasting” diet program for himself – “egg fasting”.
Some people can’t stand eating three eggs a day, or they can’t stand the fishy smell of eggs, and they can’t stand eating the same food for days on end, but Jimmy ate them for 30 days.
→ Best Low-Carb Ketogenic Foods
First of all, eggs are moderately high in protein, high in fat, and very low in carbs. Eggs are protein, high in fat, and very low in carbohydrates, and with 8 eggs a day, you’re only consuming about 8 grams, making them the perfect low-carb food.
→ Extremely Rich In Choline
Secondly, egg yolks are rich in choline, which is essential for the liver to metabolize fat. Insufficient choline increases the risk of NAFLD, which means the liver can’t even metabolize its fat, let alone the fat in your entire body.
→ Grass-fed eggs Are Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Reducing the Risk of Inflammation
Also of great importance is the ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids. If Omega-6 is too high, the body is at risk for inflammation, and failure to lose weight or lose weight at all could be inflammation at work.
Commercial and processed meats have an average Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio of 50:1, and if you don’t eat salmon, fish oil supplements, or eggs rich in these essential fatty acids regularly, you can be severely deficient in Omega-3s Grass-fed eggs are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, and when eaten regularly, they greatly reduce the risk of inflammation.
→ Nutritious and Otherwise a Little Extra Special
Eggs are very nutritious, with vitamin B12, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin A, selenium, iron, potassium, and folate. In addition to being nutritious, they are also satiating, inexpensive, versatile easy to prepare, and have various other advantages.
In addition to eggs, no matter whether you are consuming meat, cheese, avocado, coconut oil … and so on, you will not get such a balanced ratio of protein, fat, and rich nutrients.
→ Jimmy’s First Taste Of Egg Fasting, Full Of Surprises
For the average person, eggs are delicious and nutritious, but it’s still a challenge to eat them for a month, right? We can imagine the scene: Jimmy looked at a refrigerator full of eggs, and his inner taste should be a mixture of flavors, right?
Of course, he also thought of this problem, so in the home of the egg, and added two additional foods: butter and cheese. On the one hand, it can replenish the fat, and on the other hand, it also makes up for the monotony of eating only eggs, and with these two kinds of food, the eggs become tasty as well!
Considering that you can’t let yourself get too hungry and halfway through the meal, Jimmy also made 10 rules for himself that must be followed:
- Eat whole eggs – whites and yolks – as your main source of protein and fat.
- Drink 1 tablespoon (15g) of butter or other healthy fat for every egg you eat.
- Eat a whole egg within 30 minutes of waking up.
- Eat an egg meal every three to five hours, no longer than five hours.
- Eat an egg even if you are not hungry.
- For every egg you eat, you can eat another 1 ounce (28g) of full-fat cheese.
- Eat at least 6 eggs a day.
- Preferably grass-fed eggs, rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.
- Stop eating three hours before bedtime.
- You can drink three cans of sugar-free soda a day, but aim for one can or less.
A good plan is half the battle. On the seventh day of his “egg fast,” he lost 14.2 pounds. Another surprise awaited him: he became disenchanted with diet colas, and the egg meal continued to appeal to him:
After 30 days, Jimmy had lost 28 pounds, an experience he still looked back on later with a sense of accomplishment:
“I didn’t think I’d make it, but I did, and eggs changed my life.”
He then got his low-carb life back on track and his weight didn’t bounce back when he finished. As I write this, I’m going to say, should the average person try Jimmy’s Egg Fasting?
Do You Want To Try Egg Fasting?
The egg-fasting method was pioneered by Jimmy, so the rules he set are in line with his own.
Jimmy is tall, athletic, and has a high basal metabolism, so if you follow his rules, you will be consuming too much cheese and fat. So, when doing egg fasting you have to adjust the dosage according to your weight, height, and BMI.
For the average person, I would recommend coconut oil more than butter and cheese, the medium-chain fatty acids are more conducive to ketone body formation and help you control your appetite. At an average weight, I wouldn’t recommend adding a lot of fat and cheese either, or skipping the eggs if you’re in good shape and not hungry.
However, if you’re feeling weak or need to exercise, you can do the same as Jimmy and consume 6 eggs a day to ensure you have enough protein to avoid muscle loss and lower metabolism. You can also have a cup of Bulletproof Coffee every morning or a cup of bone broth with butter, depending on your preference.
The amount of fats and oils needs to be added according to your own reality. However, I would still recommend that people who are truly adapted to ketogenic only try such a diet, as some people may experience severe discomfort if they go straight from a high-carb diet to egg fasting.
For example, the first stage can produce dizziness, brain fog, mental fog, poor condition, and low mood; another possible side effect is constipation, when this happens, it is recommended to drink enough water, and you can add some pink salt to increase electrolytes.
Egg fasting, which may also raise the risk of malnutrition, is recommended preferably for no more than 5 days. It should be noted that people with diabetes, eating disorders, people who have had their gallbladder removed, and pregnant or breastfeeding women, should not try it easily or under the guidance of a professional.
What Benefits Can Egg Fasting Bring?
First of all, 3-5 days of egg fasting can help you break the weight loss plateau or get you into a nutritious ketogenic state quickly for fat burning. Plus, it’s part of a very restrictive ketogenic diet, and you may gain some ketogenic benefits such as improved insulin sensitivity, lower inflammation, and reduced belly fat.
Another benefit of egg fasting: some people are always allergic but struggle to find the allergens, and egg fasting may help you find them. While on an egg fast, eat nothing but specific foods such as eggs and healthy fats. When it is over, slowly eat other foods so that you can observe, how your body reacts to certain foods.
Finally, when doing egg fasting, you may feel that it’s simple, convenient, and doesn’t require much else to prepare. A simple diet can make you feel good, well-nourished, and energized. With a simpler life and a decreased appetite, you’ll have a much easier time and will be able to devote your limited energy to more meaningful things. If you’re not allergic to eggs and happen to be in a plateau phase, give it a try.
